Why subscribe?
This Substack is the result of several years of different people asking, telling and imploring me to start a blog or website where I share my thoughts and ideas about water polo. I am passionate about the sport and opiniated as well, so maybe this was inevitable. Either way, I’m happy you are here!
While I have knowledge and experienced gained from my time in the sport, I am not under the impression that I am an expert or even that I am right about everyhthing I may propose in these posts. However, I do believe that water polo needs a space like this where ideas and topics are able to be freely discusssed without the burden of any other organizational oversight, because I believe strongly that the current structure of water polo often silences or disregards any differing or dissenting thought.
I will discuss the rules of the game and their history, application and interpretation. I will discuss the state of the sport and try to suggest way to continue to expand it. I will discuss coaching and eduction and best practices for both. I will discuss our national teams and the governing body of the sport and how it is run. Perhaps I will occasionally discuss international tournaments or the college or high school seasons. If I can think off a topic and it has to do with water polo I will try to provide my thoughts on it.
Furthermore, I hope that readers will engage with those thoughts and provide their own be they supportive or combative. I am more than happy to use this platform to post the work and ideas of others as well, so if you have something you want to say please reach out to me!
This Substack and any articles I share on it owe greatly to and are in the spirit of the website WaterPoloPlanet.com in the early 2000’s that provided a young and inexperienced coach an avenue to learn about the game and think about it critically.
Thank you again for reading and I hope to hear from you soon!
